Investigation of the Effects of Pilates Based Exercise on Posture, Quality of Life, Depression Symptoms and Pain in Women

Objective: The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of pilates based exercises on pain, depression symptoms, quality of life and posture in women

Materials and Methods: This was a randomized study. Participants were recruited and randomly divided into 2 groups: a exercise group (n = 11), and a control group (n = 11). The exercise group underwent related training programs for 3 month, while the controls had no specific training. After demographic knowledge were collected, participants were evaluated using the Visuel Analog Scale (VAS), the New York Posture Test (NYP),Waist/ Hip ratio (WHR), Beck Depression Inventory (BDI), Notthingham Health Profile (NHP) at the baseline and after 12 weeks of training.

Results: Differences were observed for NYP, Body Mass Index and WHR in the exercise group between baseline and week 12 (P<0.05) and these parameters were not significantly different in the control group between baseline and week 12 (P>0.05).

Conclusion: Pilates based exercises should be effective on posture and body composition in women.
