Objective: End-stage renal disease is an important health problem. Haemodialysis is inevitable for these patients. In order to apply the dialysis, a vascular access pathway is required. Among these access routes, arteriovenous fistulas have the least complications and longest patency rates.

Materials and Methods: Between January 2016-2020, 406 patients who were referred for arteriovenous fistula operation for hemodialysis were analyzed. 213 patients with radiocephalic fistula were named as Group I, 104 patients with brachiocephalic fistula were named as Group II, and 89 patients who underwent revision of inadequate fistula were named as Group III. The 1-year patency rates were studied and the relationship with comorbidities and gender were analyzed.

Results: There was a statistically significant relationship between diabetes and 1-year occlusion rates (p<0.05) in Group I and (p<0.05) Group II. We observed that brachiocephalic fistulas had significantly better results for 1-year patency rates (p<0.05).

Conclusion: As cardiovascular surgeons, we must strive to ensure that patients can use this vital access route in the most efficient way, keeping in mind that we have a limited number of surgical opportunities, we should open the fistula from the distal, and in case of occlusion, we should definitely contribute by giving a chance for revision.
