Objective: The study was conducted to perform the Turkish validity and reliability of the "Perioperative Thirst Discomfort Scale-Escala de Desconforto da Sede Perioperatória-EDESP)".

Materials and Methods: The study, which was planned in methodological type, was carried out between 01.03.2021-30.08.21 with patients hospitalized in a university general surgery clinic. The sample of the study consisted of 100 patients. Data were collected face-to-face by the researchers. Descriptive statistical methods were used while evaluating the data. Confirmatory Factor Analysis was performed for the reliability and construct validity of the adapted scale. Language equivalence of the scale was achieved by using translation-back-translation techniques. It was evaluated with the Content Validity Index (CVI).

Results: The mean age of the patients was 49.19±15.6 years, 75% were female, and 60% had chronic disease. The Content Validity Index (CVI) was found to be 1.00. According to the Confirmatory Factor analysis, the Structural Equation Modeling Results of the scale were significant at the p=0.000 level, One out of 7 items was removed from the scale because the factor load was low (My tongue is swollen), and the remaining 6 items were found to be related to the one-dimensional scale structure. In the analysis, χ2=6.039, df=6, RMSEA=0.008, GFI=0.989, AGFI=0.963, CFI=1,000, NFI=0.965, SRMR=0.027. The Cronbach Alpha for the overall scale was found to be 0.871.

Conclusion: The findings obtained from the analyses performed to adapt the Perioperative Thirst Discomfort Scale to Turkish society showed that the Turkish version of the scale was reliable and valid.
