Cadmium used for metal compounds, batteries and pigments has varied toxicological effects in organisms. It also causes cancer via the affinity to nucleic acids and inhibition of some enzymes. Therefore, we decided to examine of pathological effects of cadmium that is a toxicological and very important metal for public health. In this study, 24 rabbits were used, 18 of them were allocated to experimental group and subcutaneous, daily cadmium (Cd) 2 mg/kg administration was made during six weeks period. Four of the rabbits out of 18 died were necropsied and tissue samples collected. Periodically a total of 4 rabbits ,3 from experimental group, including the dead ones, and 1 from control group were sacrified and necropsied at the end of each week. In macroscopy there were hepatic enlargement, necrotic foci and serous exudate in abdominal cavity notably in the last weeks. In the microscopic examination degeneration and necrose in hepatocytes, perivasculer mononuclear cell infiltration and bile duct proliferation were observed in liver. Degeneration, necrose and desquamation in the epithelium of convoluted tubules were seen. In brain, neuronal degeneration and necrose were also recorded. In addition, sever hypereamia and haemorrhage in liver and kidneys, Ca deposition in degenerative tubulus in kidney were observed in dead rabbits.
