This study was carried out to determine the effect of double flunixin meglumine (FM) injection per day at 15-16 days post insemination, on the pregnancy rates of repeat breeding heifers.

Twenty Holstein heifers; ages ranging between 19-31 months were used as the research materials. The heifers were clinically healthy, having regular estrus cycles but returned after having been at least three times inseminated.

PGF2α (D-cloprostenol, Dalmazin, Vetaş) at a dose of 150 mcg was injected twice intramuscularly at 14 days intervals, 48 hours after the last PGF2α injection 10 mcg GnRH (Buserelin acetate, Receptal, İntervet) was injected intramuscularly and a timed artificial insemination was performed between 12-14 hours after buserelin injection.

Heifers were randomly assigned to two groups at the 15th day post insemination. Flunixine meglumine (Fulimed, Alke) at a dose of 1.1 mg/kg was injected to the treatment group in the evening of the 15th and in the morning of the 16th days (12 h intervals) post insemination. No application was performed to control group.

The ultrasonographic examination performed at the 29th day post insemination indicated that 5 heifers (%50) were pregnant in the treatment group, while only 2 heifers (%20) were pregnant in the non-treated control group. The differences between two groups were not found to be statistically significant but the pregnancy rate was found to be higher treatment group than the control group.

It was concluded that flunixine meglumine applications to repeat breeding heifers at the15-16th days post insemination, may be useful for increasing the pregnancy rates
