In order to determine the significance of places serve as playgrounds for children such as public gardens and schoolyards in transmission of Toxocara species to humans, we have examined soil and/or sand samples collected from 62 different locations. 25 samples were taken from schoolyards, 12 from public playgrounds and 25 from the streets and courtyards of several dwellings.

Examination of 744 soil and/or sand samples collected with an interval of maximum 15 days revealed presence of Toxocara spp. eggs in only two consecutive samples that were collected from a schoolyard.

Our findings indicate that cats and dogs contaminate public and other playgrounds in our city by Toxocara spp.
