In this study, the married and non-pregnant nurses, midwives and female health technicians who work in Elazığ State Hospital were examined to determine whether they show any cervical cell alteration in early stage.

This study includes total 120 married and non-pregnant nurses, midwives and female health technicians who was working in Elazığ State Hospital between the dates of December 2000 and February 2001, only 86 of them were attained. The rate of reply was 71.7%.

The mean age was 35.57 (SD: 5.96). A great deal of them, 54.7% (47 subjects) were smoker. 58.1% ( 50 subjects) of them stated that they have not had any pap-smear scanning test before. The subjects included in the study were asked about how frequently a woman had to get a pap-smear scanning test. 40.7% ( 35 subjects) of them reported as once a year. 39.5% (34 subjects) reported as twice a year. When the results of the pap-smear scanning test were evaluated, Class II was found in 79.1% ( 68 subjects) of them and Class IIIA was found in 3.5% ( 3 subjects) of them.

The rate of periodically having pap-smear scanning test of the married and non-pregnant nurses, midwives and female health technicians who work in Elazığ State Hospital was found very low. For this reason, it should be given priority to offer trainning and servicing for any sexually active woman to have periodic pap-smear test at least once a year.
