The Investigation of Verbal and Practical Leg Preference of Young Adults

Objective: The purpose of this study was to determine the leg preference profiles of young adult male-female and investigate relation levels each others.

Materials and Methods: Totally 166 individuals who consisting of 103 males (age mean 20.47 ± 1.88 years) and 63 female (age mean 20.22 ± 2.09 years) participated to study. It was determined the dominant leg preferences of participants verbally in daily works and physical activities. “Starting the race”, “climb up to balance apparatus”, “hit the ball to wall” and “running from somersault” leg preference recorded to video camera in test area.

Results: As a result of verbal statements, it was ascertained that 92.06 percent of female group and 85.44 percent of male group preferred the right leg. The value order of percentage distribution of the preferred leg during the start of the movements at different characters in each group was ascertained higher at putting the ball on the wall and climbing to the balancing equipment stations.

Conclusion: In that researh consisting of young adults, it can be said that the attendants direct their leg reference to the field which they believe that they are more talented in respect to speed, balance and motor skills when considered the level of difficulty in cicuits. The range of learning motor and its efficiency will reduce the dominance ratio by effecting the lateral asmmetry related to the use of organs. Hence, in the works of determining of reference related to the upper and lower extrimities, the selected references requring light motor skills such as aesthetic, balance and speediness and consisting of movements of their combination will be more effective in determining the dominant organ and dominance ratio rather than the gross and simple motor skills.
