Bovine ephemeral fever (BEF) is a viral disease of cattle which is characterized by hematological
and biochemical changes. It can cause significant economic impact due to reduced milk production
in dairy herds, and loss of condition in beef cattle. In the present study, a total of 110 whole blood
and 120 sera were collected from cattle in 10 provinces located in Southeastern Anatolia, Eastern
Anatolia, and Mediterranean region in 2008. After total RNA extraction of the samples, reverse
transcriptase polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) was used to recover partial sequences of the
BEFV glycoprotein gene. Glycoprotein gene was found in 20 samples by polymerase chain
reaction by using specific primers in 2008.
