Pyometra or cystic endometrial hyperplasia is the accumulation of purulent material within the lumen of the uterus. Pyometra are classified as open-cervix or closed-cervix pyometras, according to the presence or absence of a vulvar discharge. In this review, new approaches regarding aethiology and therapy of pyometra complex were put forward in the lights of recent studies.
