The aim of this study was to investigate the changes in the glucose, osmolality, alanine aminotransferase (ALT), aspartate aminotrasferase (AST) levels in serum samples of rats treated with high doses of dipyrone, flunixin and indomethacin. Seventy-six rats were used in the study. One group served as control. High doses of dipyrone (125 mg/kg), flunixin (5.5 mg/kg) and indomethacin (15 mg/kg) were given intraperitonally during 7 days to the experimental groups. During the administrations in 1, 4 and 7th days at 2 and 4th hours blood samples were collected. Glucose, osmolality, ALT and AST levels were determined in the sera.
A significant increase was observed in serum glucose levels in rats treated with high doses of dipyrone, flunixin and indomethacin. On the other hand when compared with the control group values, a slightly increase was observed in the serum osmolality, ALT and AST levels in the experimental groups. It was concluded that, when dipyrone, flunixin and indomethacin were applied at high doses, the increase in serum osmolality might have been due to a electrolyte disintegration. On the other hand, liver and muscle damage might be responsible for the increase in the serum glucose, ALT and AST levels. |
