In this study, it was aimed to determine the efficacy of bovine amniotic fluid on healing of experimentally created defects in the cornea. 14 New Zealand rabbits were used in the study. The rabbits with 3mm diameter full thickness epithelial defects in their cornea were randomly divided into two groups. While 3 drops of amniotic fluid was applied to the amnion group (AS) 3 times a day, 3 drops of saline solution was applied to the rabbits in the control group (KG) 3 times a day. At the end of the study, defected left eyes and intact right eyes of rabbits that were decapitated and euthanized were taken under appropriate conditions and examined histopathologically. In the study, significant differences were found in the rabbits in the AS group in terms of neovascularization and the presence of inflammatory infiltration cells compared to the KG group. As a result, it was concluded that the bovine amniotic fluid is a viable treatment option in the treatment of corneal defects.
