Objective: Many factors play a role in the etiology of obesity. One of them is the socioeconomic level. The aim of this study is to investigate the relationship between anthropometric measurements of primary school children at different socioeconomic levels and obesity.

Materials and Methods: This cross-sectional study was carried out in three different primary schools at different socioeconomic levels in Elazig city center. The universe of the study consists of 1523 students aged 7-10 in three primary schools. The sample of the study was calculated as 321 by calculating the universe with the known sample calculation method. A questionnaire form created by using the literature was used in collecting the data.

Results: A total of 46.4% of the students participating in the research are girls. The mean age of the students is 8.50±1.17. According to the findings of the research, 28.4% of the students were found to be obese. While the income level of 12.8% (n=41) of the students in the obese group is 5001 TL and above, the income level of 12.1% (n=39) is 2500 TL and below. The difference between income level and obesity prevalence was very close to statistical significance (P=0.051).

Conclusıon: The prevalence of mild overweight and obesity were found to be higher in middle and high socioeconomic class schools. Preventive health care programs should be developed to prevent obesity in school-age children.
