In this study, the colonisation of S. enteritidis and S. typhimurium in the visceral organs, and their pathogenicity, in experimentally infected Cyprinus carpio were investigated. A total number of 10 C. carpio divided into five groups, each group consisting of two fish, were used in the study. Four groups were injected intraperitoneally with two different dilutions (108 and 104 cfu/ml) of S. enteritidis and S. typhimurium cultures and one group was left as control.

In the high-dose (10) S. enteritidis injected group, both fish died on the 42nd and 134th days, respectively. In the low-dose (104) S. enteritidis injected group, while one fish died on the 30th day, the other survived. In the high-dose (108) S. typhimurium injected group, both fish died on the 24th day. In the low-dose (104) S. typhimurium injected group, both fish died on the 36th an 91st days, respectively. Salmonella agents were isolated from the visceral organs of all fish died until the 42nd day, but no isolation was made from the organs of fish died afterwards.
