Role of Pregnancy in Epidemiology of Rotavirus Infection in Cattle

This study had been performed at Karaköy Tarım İşletmesi which is known that rotavirus infection detected frequently in newborn calves. In this research, 479 feaces samples from group I which were late pregnant cattle, from group II which were 15 non-pregnant cattle, and from newbornes of cows in group I which were detected for rotavirus antigen by Enzyme Linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA) and for nucleic acids by Polyacrylamide Gel Electrophoresis (PAGE). Data showed that adult cattle spread the virus at late phase of pregnancy, especially at the day of giving birth and their newborn probably became infected by the virus which adults spread and also this is the main source of infection for other newborns of the farm.
