A serologic investigation of Canine Herpesvirus-1 (CHV-1) infection in stray dogs in Afyon Province

Canine Herpesvirus-1 (CHV-1) is an alphaherpesviral infection found throughout the world in dog population. In this study, existence and ratio of CHV-1 infection was investigated in dogs as serologically in Afyon province.

Blood serum samples obtained from 94 (41 male/53 female) healty seemingly adults (1-8 years old) in a dog kennel which animals collected recent three month. As a result of indirect ELISA test, 46 out of 94 animals (%48.8) was detected as positive for CHV-1 spesific antibodies.

As a conclusion; due to latent structure of the CHV-1 infection, nearly half of the tested dogs was founded as infected. The infection rates was compared in male (51.2%) and female (47.1%) dogs as statistically and was founded similar, in addition struggle strategy for CHV-1 was recommended.
