Keywords: Pheasant, breeding systems, egg productivity, hatchability characteristics

This study was conducted to determine egg production and hatchability characteristics at different age periods of the pheasants which were reared at various breeding systems.

Pheasants were placed and reared in free system at ground, mating cage and group cage systems. The study look a total period of 126 days which included age periods of 36-40, 41-44, 45- 48 and 49-53 weeks.

The values obtained from pheasants which were reared at the free system, mating cage and group cage systems were detected as 29.10%, 38.54% and 40.52% (P<0.05) for egg production, 27.10- 32.47 g, 29.30-33.02 g and 28.17-32.51 g (P<0.01, P<0.001) for egg weight, 12.38%, 4.41% and 5.96% (P<0.05) for broken egg ratio, 43.35-54.04%, 51.72-57.93% and 50.59-54.99% (P<0.01) for hatchability, 49.84-59.35%, 56.99-64.04% and 55.63-60.15% (P<0.05) for fertility ratio and as 56.71-68.40%, 64.81- 78.46% and 61.30-74.50% (P<0.05, P<0.01) for hatchability of fertile eggs, respectively.

It was concluded that the number of scientific studies toward investigating growth, and nutrition performances in addition to egg production and hatchability characteristics should be increased in order to widen pheasant breeding and to suggest more robust breeding systems to the breeders.
