This study was carried out to investigate the effects of body condition score of Tuj ewes at lambing
and some factors on the growth and livability of the lambs raised under semi intensive conditions.
The animal materials comprised of 2-5 years old 102 Tuj ewes and their 156 lambs were used. The
body condition score of the ewes was taken just before lambing and allocated into three body
condition score groups as ≤2, 2.5-3.5, and ≥4. The values of the lambs were determined at birth,
30, 60, 90, 120, 150 and 180 days live weight, live weight gain and liveabiltiy. The differences in
the groups of the birth and 30 day live weight according to body condition score at lambing were
significant (P<0.05, P<0.01). The live weights of the ewes with body condition score of ≥4 were
better than ≤2 ve 2.5-3.5. The effect of body condition score at lambing on 60, 90, 120, 150 and
180 days liveability (P<0.05, P<0.01) was found significant, but was not found significant on 30 day
liveability (P>0.05). In this study, the effect of age of dam on the birth and 30 day weight were
found to be significant (P<0.05). The effect of the birth type on the live weight at birth, 30, 60, 90,
120, 150 and 180 days were significant (P<0.05-P<0.001). Sex was not found to be significantly
effective (P>0.05) in the age groups. As a result, in addition to body condition score, age of dam
and birth type significantly affected some growth traits and body condition score significantly
affected liveabiltiy.
