The objective of this study was to determine seroprevalance of brucellosis in sheep and goats from
Hatay region.
The serologic examinations were performed by commercially avaliable ELISA test kits. 155 (33.5%) of 462 sheep and 177 (38.6 %) of 458 goats were found to be seropositive for brucella antibodies. 56 (77.8 %) of 72 aborted sheep, 71 (45.2 %) of 157 aborted goats and, 99 (25.4 %) of 390 nonaborted sheep, 106 (35.2 %) of 301 non-aborted goats were seropositive for the disease. Seropositivity rates in both aborted sheep and goats were significantly higher than in non-aborted animals. Regarding breeds, the brucella seropositivity rates of sheep were significantly differences. Otherwise, no significant differences were found among various goat breeds. Futhermore, seropositivity rates of both sheep and goats increased in paralel to age. As a result, high brucella seropositivity rates were obtained in sheep and goats from Hatay region. |
