This study was carried out to investigate the effect of soybean meal and sunflower meal added to the rations on iron, copper and zinc values of blood collected from weaned foals.

In the experiment, the foals were divided into three treatment groups each containing 4 crossbreed male foals. The total experimental periods were of 60 days duration consisting of 15 days for adaptation and 45 days for basal experiment.

The foals were fed with 4 kg/day concantrate feed and 1.5 kg/day dried grass straw.

Sunflower meal added to the rations along or combined with soybean meal did not effect the serum copper values on the other hand they caused statistically significant change in the iron (P<0.01) and zinc (P<0.05) values.

It is concluded that sunflower meal added to the weanled foal rations had no adverse effect on iron, copper and zinc levels of blood serum however the addition of soybean meal to the rations decreased zinc levels.
