The purpose of this review is to explain the up-to-date data and the potential related to livestock sector, especially in cattle, sheep and goat breeding in Malatya province. Eastern Anatolia Region, Turkey's agriculture and livestock sector, is significant in terms of livestock production. Malatya has been one of the most crowded cities in Eastern Anatolia Region in which agriculture and animal breeding occupies an important place in its economical activities. Therefore, determining livestock sector's current situation and its potential is important in terms of cattle, sheep and goat breeding. As a result, Malatya has positive characteristics in livestock sector in respect to the number of cattle, sheep and goat stock, the traits of animal production and the contribution to the employment ratio. However, similar to the other cities, Malatya has been negatively influenced by livestock problems and inapproriate practices.
