Keywords: Quail, age, egg weight, shape index, hatchability

The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of parents age, egg weight and shape index on hatchability in quails. A total of 573 quail eggs that 198 are obtained in first age group (in young parents) and 375 are in second age group (in old parents) were used in the study. The 3 weight groups and 6 shape index groups were created in each age group. The fertility rate and hatchability characteristics were investigated in these groups.

At the end of study; egg weight, fertility rate and hatchability were found statistically significant higher in young parents than in old parents (P< 0.01, P<0.001). The effect of egg weight on incubator performance in youngs and on incubator performance and incubation outcomes in olds was determined statistically significant (P<0.05). It was concluded that shape index is not an important egg quality criterion for hatchability.
