The aim of this study was to investigate the fattening performance, slaughter and carcass characteristics of purebred Awassi and Tahirova x Awassi (F1) crossbred male lambs.

Following weaning, lambs were fattened in two equal pen after a 15 day adjustment period to fattening and concentrated feed with 300 g alpha alpha hay was given ad libitum until they reached 45 kg live weight. Afterward animals were slaughtered to determine slaughter and carcass characteristics.

Average daily weight gains during 0-98 days of fattening period were 219 and 241 g in pure and crossbreeds, respectively. Concentrated feed consumption for 1 kg weight gain were 6.74 and 6.06 kg for pure and crossbreed animals, respectively. When lambs were slaughtered at 45 kg live weight, the cold carcass weight, in pure and crossbreeds were 21.77 and 19.72 kg respectively; carcass performance, ratio of rearleg and foreleg in pure and crossbreeds were 48.33 and 43.85 % and 29.83 and 31.95 %, 17.18 and 18.23 %, respectively. Tail fat ratio, carcass body length, rearleg width, chest weight, Musculus Longissumus Dorsi (MLD) areas and back fat thickness in pure and crossbreed were 11.75 and 2.94 % (p<0.01), 63.00 and 65.25 cm, 16.86 and 16.50 cm, 16.43 and 19.13 cm (p<0.01), 20.74 and 19.07 cm² and 17.60 and 8.80 mm (P<0.01), respectively.
