This study was conducted to evaluate the effect of Diernhofer's modification of the punch test on the acute reticuloperitoneal traumatica (RPT) in cows as an expression of increased pain sensitivity of "mouth sneezing".

In the study, 12 acute RPT cows of different races and ages were used for examination and treatment at Fırat University Veterinary Faculty Internal Diseases Clinic at different times.

After anamnesis taken from the owner of the patients, clinical (body temperature, respiratory and hearth rate and rumen movement) and systemic examination were performed. The patients diagnosed as RPT were directed to surgery.

The disease was diagnosed by foreign object pain test (Ridge constriction probe, Kalchschmidt probe Götze probe, fist probe of modified Diernhofer), endometaloscopy (with dedector of Hauptner) and total leucoyte count. Operation of the patients were carried out at the surgery department of Fırat University.

Body temperature, respiratory and hearth rate, rumen movements in five minutes and total leucocyte count were 39.71±0.45⁰C, 46.00±13.05 /min and 91.33±10.76 /min, 5.08±1.38 / 5 min and 11666.67±1424.04 /mm3, respectively.

It was determined that contraction rate of rumen was low, pain tests and examination with ferroskop were positive between (++–) and (+++). Smacking mouth were seen in all cases as symptom of pain. During operation; foreign objects were seen in all cases with smacking mouth.

As a result; in the case of acute RPT, it came to the conclusion that foreign body pain tests can be evaluated as a painful expression of "mouth sneezing" determined during the application of Diernhofer's modification of the punch test and will be helpful in diagnosing the disease
