Objective: Injuries due to electrical current belong to a wide range of life threatening conditions that can cause simple tissue injury to multiple serious organ damage, even death. The purpose of this study is to investigate the deaths due to electrical current in Elazig between 2005 to 2016, and compare them with similar studies in the literature.

Materials and Methods: The data obtained from 33 cases of death due to electrical current which were autopsied between 2005 and 2016 in Elazig, were evaluated retrospectively in terms of gender, age, place of incidence, distribution by months-season and year, the location of lesions due to the entrance and exit of electrical current on body, and analyzed by using SPSS (Statistical Package for Social Science).

Results: Twenty nine (87.9%) of the cases were males, the youngest was two years old and the oldest was 69 years old. The average age was determined as 34.18±15.92. Determination of the most common season and month of incidence revealed that 16 (48.5%) cases were in summer, and six (18.2%) cases were in july. In 16 of the cases, it was seen that both of the entrance and exit lesions were present.

Conclusion: We believe that proper installation of the substructure, regular maintenance of the electrical equipment, prevention of misuse of these equipment by unauthorized persons, and organisation of training programs for safety precautions will reduce electrical accidents and associated death rates.
