Effect of Ellagic Acid on Some Hematological Parameters in Scaly Carp (Cyprinus carpio)

In the present study,it was aimed to investigate the effects of various levels of dietary ellagic acid on haematological values in scaly carp (Cyprinus carpio). Fish were fed with the control diet and three different experimental diets containing three different levels of ellagic acid (50, 100 and 200 mg kg-1 diet) for 60 days. On the 30th and 60th days of the experiment, the haematological values [red and white blood cell counts, haemoglobin and haematocrit levels and erythrocyte indices: Mean corpuscular volume (MCV), mean corpuscular haemoglobin (MCH) and mean corpuscular haemoglobin concentration (MCHC)] were analysed.The red and white blood cell counts, haemoglobin and haematocrit levels increased in the groups fed with ellagic acid when compared with the control group. However, there were no significant differences in the erythrocyte indices among the groups.
