This study was carried out to determine the prevalence of ectoparasites on hares and chukar partridges caught in Niğde province during the hunting season between October 2018 and January 2019. The study was conducted on a total of 11 animals, including nine hares (Lepus europaeus Linnaeus, 1758) and two chukar partridges (Alectoris chukar Gray, 1830). The animals were first examined with the naked eye, and then sprayed with a synthetic prethyroid insecticide and the collected ectoparasites were stored in 70% alcohol. Ectoparasites such as lice and fleas were detected by light microscopy after being cleared in 10% KOH for 24-48 hours and adhered to a slide with Canadian balsam, and ticks were identified under a stereo-microscope. All of the examined hares were infested with various tick and flea species. On the other hand, lice species were detected on only one chukar partridges. In this study, a total of 42 ectoparasite specimens were collected from the studied hares and 16 ticks and 26 fleas were found on hares, as well as 10 lice samples from chukar partridges. Ticks collected from hares were identified as Haemaphysalis parva (6♀, 9♂, 1N) and fleas as Ctenocephalides felis (4♀, 3♂), Pulex irritans (6♀, 8♂), Caenopsylla laptevi laptevi (3♀, 2♂). Lice species found in the chukar partridge were identified as Cuclotogaster heterographus (3♀, 2♂,1N), Goniocotes pusillus (3♀), Goniodes dispar (1♂). As a result, in this study, a total of 52 ectoparasites were detected, including 16 ticks and 26 fleas in hares, and 10 louse samples in the chukar partridges.
