In this study, Alkaline Phosphotase (ALP), Alanine Transaminase (ALT) and Aspartate Transaminase (AST) levels of the blood serum of cows with retained placenta (RP) were measured and the relation between the RP and these enzyme activities was investigated. A total of 20 cows at various age and from various breeds, 10 with and 10 without retained placenta (Control), were used as the material of the study. The serum levels of ALP, ALT and AST in cows were determined spectrophotometrically.

No significant difference was found between serum levels of ALP and ALT from cows with and without retained placenta (RP-ALP: 15.82, C-ALP: 19.81 / RP-ALT: 5.47, C-ALT: 5.76 IU/L). The serum levels of AST in cows with and without retained placenta were 19.38 and 14.77 IU/L, respectively (P<0.05) indicating an increased activity of this enzyme in cows with RP.
