In the present study, it was aimed to investigate the effects of restricted suckling and different doses of eCG on estrus stimulation and fertility in lactating Hungarian Merino ewes whose estrus was synchronized with short-term progestagen applications during the breeding season. At the beginning of estrus stimulation, the ewes were randomly divided into 4 groups. A sponge containing 60 mg medroxyprogesterone acetate was applied intravaginally to these ewes on day 0, and the sponges were kept in the vagina for 7 days. During the sponge application period, ewes in the lactation groups (L) stayed with their lambs for 5 hours a day to suckle, while ewes in the restriction groups (K) were left with their lambs for 1 hour in every 2 days. In all ewes, sponges were removed on the seventh day, and at the time of sponge removal, 250 μg cloprostenol sodium and eCG were administered at a dose of 350 IU (to groups L-350 and K-350) and at a dose of 550 IU (to groups L-550 and K-550). Estrus detection was performed in the morning and evening, starting 12 hours after the sponges were removed. The ewes found to be in estrus were mated by hand mating method. Ultrasonographic pregnancy examination was performed on the ewes on the 48th day after mating. Estrus rate, pregnancy rate, lambing rate and litter size parameters were calculated for the 1st service, 2nd service and overall services in the groups. According to the statistical analysis, no significant difference was detected in the parameters between the groups (P>0.05). It was concluded that the restricted suckling and different doses of eCG did not affect the fertility parameters in the rebreeding of lactating Hungarian Merino ewes that gave lambing at the beginning of the breeding season with short-term progestagen applications during the same breeding season, but that estrus could be re-aggregated and lamb productivity could be increased numerically.
