Keywords: Hystrix cristata, porcupine, renal artery

This study was undertaken to examine the renal arteries of porcupine by latex injection. A total of 9 adult porcupines (4 male, 5 female) were used. Abdominal aort gave off the right renal artery at the level of the second vertebra lumbalis. Approximately 0,5 cm after from this vessel, abdominal aort gave off the left renal artery. The right renal artery entered to ren dexter as three separate branches while the left renal artery as two separate branches. The adrenal gland (glandula suprarenalis) was vascularized by rami adrenales (-supra) caudales. Renal arteries gave off a thin branch called ramus uretricus for the vascularization of the abdominal part of the ureter. In conclusion; renal arteries of the porcupines were found slightly different from those of the other rodents.
