The aim of this study was to investigate the changes in the osmolality parameters and sodium, potassium, calcium and magnesium levels in serum samples of sheep treated with furosemide and indomethacin.

Twenty four sheep 28-49 kg body weight were used in the study. The animals were allocated into 3 groups, each containing 8 sheep. These groups were intramuscularly administered furosemide, indomethacin and the combination of both, respectively. Blood samples were collected before the administrations (control period) and 15, 30, 60, 120, 240 and 480th minutes following the administrations. Osmolality parameters and sodium, potassium, calcium and magnesium levels were ascertained in the blood sera.

In conclusion, a significant decrease was observed in the osmolality parameters and serum electrolyte levels in the first 4 hour period, whereas these values were seen to be close to the control values in the 8th hour, in the group treated with furosemide. On the other hand, when compared with control period values, no significant changes were observed in the osmolality parameters and serum electrolyte levels in the groups treated with indomethacin and the combination of furosemide and indomethacin.
