This study was carried out to determine arsenic levels in the various tobacco samples. The arsenic levels in the samples were determined by spectrophotometrically with silver diethyldithiocarbamate procedure at 540 nm after the organic contents in tobacco samples had been ashed by mixtures of magnesium nitrate-magnesium oxide.

The arsenic levels in 69 tobacco samples were determined. The mean level of arsenic was determined in samples at 1.61 ± 0.19 µ g/g. The highest level of arsenic was obtained in the local wrapping tobacco samples at 1.97 ± 0.32 µ g/g.

It was concluded that the levels of arsenic in the tobacco samples would be able to rise many important health problems in humans.
