Keywords: GnRH, anoestrous, cat

In the present study, 19 anoestrous cats served as subjects. Vaginal smear was performed before GnRH applica-tion and it was confirmed by examination of cell types in the smear that all cats were in the anoestrous period. The animals were arbitrarily divided into four groups. The first group (n=5) received 25 mcg Gonadorelin diasetat (Ovarelin, 2 ml, DIF) and second group (n=5) 25 mcg Fertirelin asetat (Ovalyse, 2 ml, Eczacıbası) as a single dose. Group III (n=4) was injected with 25 mcg Gonadorelin diasetat (Ovarelin, 2 ml) twice with four day interval. The re-maining cats were included in the control group (n=5).

Behavioral changes of the cats were followed and histology of the vaginal epithelia examined at two day inter-vals for 12 days after drug administration. At the end of 12th day, ovariehisterectomy was applied on all animals and the ovaries and uterus were examined macroscopically.

It was found that there was pronounced fol-licular development in parallel with dense populations of intermedier and superficial cells in the Group I and III cats. In addition, GnRH administrations failed to induce oestrous in all animals (except one cat in the third group).
