This study was undertaken to investigate the efficacy of Danofloxacin (intramammary administered) in lactating cows with subclinical mastitis. Milk samples collected from 54 quarters of 25 cows were examined by California Mastitis Test and microbiologically positive 43 quarters of 20 cows were used in this study.

Staphylococcus sp. (76.6%), Corynebacterium sp. (20.9%) and Pasteurella sp. (2.3%) were isolated from 43 quarters of the cows, which were diagnosed with subclinical mastitis. Of the microorganisms identified 21 (48.8%) and 22 (51.1%) were found to be sensitive (+++) and highly sensitive (++++), respectively, to Danofloxacin.

The treatment included the administration of 125 mg Danofloxacin (Advocin, Pfizer) diluted with 45 ml of physiological saline into the teats at 24 hour intervals for three days. The efficacy of the therapy was evaluated by culture test, 7 days following Danofloxacin administration. The results showed that 93.02% recovery was obtained with Danofloxacin treatment.
