This study was undertaken to determine the prevalence of Toxocara spp. eggs in the soil samples of 10 different schoolyards in central Elazig between January and February 2005. Two hundred and fifty grams of soil samples collected from 10 different regions of each schoolyards were examined. Resulting in a total of 100 samples were investigated for this purpose. Three different flotation solutions (saturated NaCl, MgSO4 and salt/sugar solution) were used for examination of all samples. Toxocara spp. eggs were recovered from 13 (13%), 7 (7%), and 23 (23%) samples by MgSO4, NaCl and salt/sugar solution, respectively. Our findings indicated that cat and dogs contaminated schoolyards in Elazig with Toxocara spp. eggs and that saturated salt/sugar solution was more suitable solution for flotation method than saturated MgSO4 and NaCl.
