Spinal Tumors:Analysis of Prognosis Factors in Schwannomas

Background: In this study, it is aimed to define the schwannoma cases operated in our clinic between 2000-2005, the treatment results and the factors affecting these results.

Material/Method: In this study, 12 schwannoma cases were evaluated with regard to age, gender, complain symptoms, complain periods, imaging methods, localizations, evaluation in accordance with modified Mc Cormick Scale,neurological symptoms, localization features interm of dura, surgical approaches and early term surgery results.

Results: The age rande was 40.50±18.55. 58.3% 7 were male and 41.7% 5 were female. The most frequent complain is pain 91.7% 11. The most localization is lumbar zone 41.7% 5 ; 83.3% 10 İntradural extramedullary. 83.3% 10 were applied total resection. When early term surgery results were studied, partial recovery was obseved in 58.3% 7 .

Conclusion: Schwannomas are benign. Before diagnosing severe neurological symptoms, early diagnosis and total resection affect the result in positive way.
