The aim of this study was to determine the effect of the royal jelly on some spermatological properties in male mice.

Twenty Swiss albino male mice (25 ±5 g.in body weight, 3 month old) were used in this study. During the first week of the study water and ad libitum feed were given. Experimental group (n=10) was given by intragastric intubation with a stomach tube daily 20µl royal jelly mixed in 240 µl distilled water per mouse for 60 days. Control group (n=10) was given by intragastric intubation with a stomach tube daily only distilled water (260µl) for 60 days.

In treatment and controls, spermatozoa concentration, spermatozoa motility and abnormal spermatozoa rate were 19.58±6.53 and 11.45±10.32 (x10⁶/ml), 75.00±10.60 and 35.00±20.3, (%),14.53±5.86 and 28.00±7.83 (%), respectively. Effect of royal jelly on the spermatozoa concentration, spermatozoa motility and abnormal spermatozoa rate was found significant compared with control group (p<0.05).

It is concluded that we suggested that royal jelly could increase the sperm quality in male mice.
