Macro-Anatomical Investigations on the Skeletons of Squirrels (Sciurus vulgaris) I. Ossa Membri Thoracici

The aim of this study was to investigate the bones of fore limb of the squirrels. For this purpose, a total of 3 adult male squirrels were used.

It was observed that the area of fossa supraspinata was larger than fossa infraspinata. Processus hamatus and processus suprahamatus were present. Processus coracoideus was oriented to medial by twisting in the shape of hook. The joints were present at proximal and distal between the radius and ulna. Ulna bone was thicker than radius. The digital skeleton of the forepaw was consisted of four units.

In conclusion, it was determined that fore limb bones of squirrels was similar to rodentia.
