Objective: Recently, a relation was revealed between herpesvirus and severity of periodontitis. The aim of this study was to determine prevalence of herpesvirus in crevicular fluid sample which were taken from patients with periodontitis and to reveal a relation between clinical paremeter (plak indeks; PI, gingival indeks; GI and probing depth; PD) and present of herpesvirus.

Materials and Methods: For this aim, total of 52 patients with periodontitis and 20 healthy persons who attend to periodontology clinic of Elazig Tooth Hospital were included the study. Crevicular fluid of sample of participants was taken with paper point. Later, DNAs of the samples was extracted. The presence of herpes viruses were investigated with Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) using four specific primers.

Results: EBV was determined in 61.5% of 52 patient's sample. CMV was determined in 53.8% of 52 samples. HSV-1 and HSV-2 were determined respectively in 32.6 % and 25 % of 52 samples.

Conclusion: As result, presence of a strong etiologic relation between presence of EBV, CMV and periodontitis, its clinic condition and a weak etiologic relation between HSV and periodontitis, its clinic condition were convinced.
