Keywords: Endometritis, biochemical parameter, mare

We aimed to define physiological values of some biochemical parameters in purebred Arabian mares in or arround Şanlıurfa, Turkey. We also aimed to compare these values to those of diseased cases and try to implement the results for diagnosis.

We used 20 healthy mares and 15 mares with endometritis. Blood samples were taken from v. jugularis and the levels of glucose, cholesterol, triglycerid, total protein, albumin, sodium, potasium, Alanine transaminase (ALT), Aspartate aminotransferase (AST), urea, and creatinin were detected with autoanalyzer.

These levels in healthy mares were defined as following: Na (135.25 ± 2.78 mmol/L), K (5.02 ± 0.52 mmol/L), glucose (61.60±9.16 mg/dl), triglyceride (5.50±1.58 mg/dl), total protein (6.44±0.15 g/dl), albumin (6.44±0.15 g/dl), urea (24.66±0.98 mg/dl), creatinin (1.42±0.14 mg/dl), ALT (8.87 ±0.83 IU/L), AST (206.20 ±14.3 IU/L).

The levels of AST (p<0.01) and glucose (p<0.05) were found different in mares with endometritis while the other values did not differ.

In conclusion, we detected no difference between the biochemical parameters tested in the two groups.
