The study was conducted to investigate macroanatomically the structure of duodenum and pancreas with light microscope in japanese quails (Coturnix coturnix japonica). For this purpose 5 male and 5 female, a total of 10quails were used.

In japanese quails (Coturnix coturnix japonica), duodenum arised craniodorsally on the right face of the ventricule and made a “U” shaped curve. The left ventral branch of the duodenum, pars descendens duodeni, curved through left on the back of the ventricule and continued as the right dorsal branch of the duodenum, pars ascendens duodeni.

Pancreas was a gray-white shape organ localised between the curves of the duodenum. It was observed that the pancreas had four lobes named lobus pancreatis dorsalis, lobus pancreatis ventralis, lobus pancreatis tertius and lobus pancreatis splenalis. In addition, pancreas had three pancreatic ducts that transmit the pancreatic secretion to duodenum.

Histologically, height of intestinal villi of duodenum was 1.5-2 mm. Through backwards, villi were getting shortened and thickened. Exocrine part of pancreas was similar to the ones of mammals.
