Investigation of the Presence of Listeria monocytogenes and Salmonella spp. in Savak Fresh White Cheese

Today, foodborne pathogens continue to cause significant public health problems. In this study it was aimed to determine the presence of Listeria monocytogenes and Salmonella spp. in a total of 200 samples of Savak fresh white cheese including 100 samples from Elazig province, 50 samples from Kovancılar district, and 50 samples from Tunceli province center. L. monocytogenes was detected in 6 (%6) of 100 cheese samples collected from the center of Elazig province, 5 (%10) of 50 cheese samples collected from the center of Kovancılar district, 6 (%12) of 50 cheese samples collected from the center of Tunceli province.Salmonella spp were isolated in 9 (%9) of the 100 samples collected from the center of Elazig province 6 (%12) of the 50 samples collected from the center of Kovancılar district and 7 (%14) of the 50 samples collected from the center of Tunceli province.

The results of this study show that Savak fresh white cheeses are contaminated with L. monocytogenes and Salmonella spp. pathogens which are important for food safety and public health. The concept of food safety from farm to table raw milk pasteurized in accordance with good manufacturing processes along the production chain to be complied with and all necessary hygienic measures that will be important in reducing public health risks that might result from these pathogens.
