Investigation of Ocular Diseases Observed in The Cattle Bred in Hatay Region

The aim of the study was to investigate the incidence of the ocular diseases observed in the cattle bred in Hatay region. For this purpose, a total of 9967 cattle of different ages, sexes and breeds underwent a survey pertaining ocular disorders and of these 1012 cattle presented 14 different ocular disorders. Of the determined disorders, 27.57% was defined as conjunctivitis, 20.16% keratitis, 12.15% infectious bovine keratoconjunktivitis (IBK), 8.20% kist dermoid, 6.72% amourosis, 8.40% eye lid related disorders, 4.64% leucoma, 2.57% buphthalmus, 2.47% corneal abscess, 1.98% scleritis, 1.48% iris staphyloma, 1.38% ulcus kornea, 1.19% prolapsus of the nictating gland and 1.08% ocular foreign bodies.

In conclusion, the current parameters show that the ocular diseases are common in the region and that especially the diseases like IBK and conjunctivitis appeared to cause important economic losses.
