In this study, relationship between the γ-glutamyltransferase (GGT) and immunoglobuline levels of newborn calves was investigated. Blood samples was obtained from 30 calves following birth and 24 hours after birth. Total blood counts were performed. In addition to this, detections of total protein, serum GGT and serum alkaline phosphatase (AP) and also determination of total immunoglobuline G and total immunoglobuline M levels were performed by quantitative ELISA method. A significant difference could not be observed regarding to AP and total protein levels. However, significant differences were observed in 0 day and 1st day with regard to immunoglobuline M and G, and serum GGT levels.

In conclusion, according to data of this study we could say that serum GGT level can be accepted as an indicator of immunoglobuline absorbtion in neonatal calves.
