Keywords: Dog, parvoviral enteritis, total oxidant and antioxidant status

In this study, it was aimed to determine the change of total oxidant-antioxidant status and oxidative stress index in the dogs with parvoviral enteritis and to show their relation with mortality. 30 dogs with parvoviral enteritis and 6 healthy dogs were used in the study. The dogs with parvoviral enteritis were divided into two groups as the surviving and death. After routine clinical examinations of all the dogs were performed, 3 mL of blood was collected for blood analysis. Total oxidative status and oxidative stress index levels in the dogs with parvoviral enteritis were significantly higher (P<0.001) than the control group. However, there was no statistical difference between total antioxidant status of the dogs with parvoviral enteritis and control group. In addition, total oxidant status levels of death dogs with parvoviral enteritis were significantly higher than the surviving dogs with parvoviral enteritis and control group (P<0.05). As a result, it is concluded that the oxidative damage develops in dogs with parvoviral enteritis.
